With so many wonderful and diverse places to visit within the state of utah, it is difficult to pick favorites.  However, there are a few places that stand out for beauty, easy access and just the right distance to call it a moderate hike that can be done again and again.  these favorites are picked for the photogenic opportunities, as opposed to the satisfaction of peak bagging.  these trails tend to be more crowed, but are certainly a must to visit at least once.  These are my top 10:
1. Lake Blanche, Wasatch range.  As one of the most popular hikes close to salt lake city, it is important to go early in the morning or late in the afternoon to get the best light and avoid the crowds.   Sunset is wonderful, just bring a headlamp for the way back down.  The fall colors are amazing in October and wildflowers are abundant in late july.  Moose can sometimes be spotted as the sun sets.  going after a late spring or early winter snowfall creates a much different experience.  The trail is 7 miles and 2800 feet of vertical.

2. Desolation Lake, Wasatch.  There are several trails that lead to this lake  including Beartrap Fork, Mill D North Fork, Wasatch crest and little water trails.   wildflowers and fall colors are amazing. The hike is relatively short with amazing views over mountains to the great salt lake in the distance.  black bears are occasionally seen on beartrap fork.  mountain bikers will occasionally be seen on millcreek and crest trails.  beartrap fork is 4.4 miles with 2200 feet of vertical.
3. Red castle, Uintas.  the hiking season in the uintahs is much shorter, and there are many beautiful lakes to explore.  Red castle stands out as my favorite for its massive red peaks adjacent to several lakes.  the hike is about 23 miles (best for camping), but only 2000 feet of elevation gain.
4. the subway, Zion
5. the narrows, Zion
6. mount timpanogos, Wasatch
7. Queens Garden Loop, Bryce
8. druid arch, canyonlands
9. kanaraville falls
10. white pine, wasatch
